Hospitality Industry in Haiti Fundraising Drive

London restaurateurs are backing two new campaigns aiming to raise cash to help Haitians in the wake of the devastating earthquake on the Caribbean island.

Rebecca Mascarenhas and Sam Harrison have leant their support to a project, operated with the support of humanitarian charity Action Against Hunger, which will encourage restaurant-goers to donate money when they receive their bill. The idea is the brainchild of Sam Harrison’s financial controller Fanny Stocker.

Stocker plans to send out donation envelopes to leading restaurants in the UK. Each envelope will detail what customers’ money can buy for the relief effort, depending on their contribution.

Speaking to Caterersearch, Stocker said: “I really want to do something for the Haiti appeal. Action Against Hunger’s teams are on the ground providing life-saving relief to the quake survivors. They have already had a number of restaurants contact them asking what they could do and this campaign would therefore fit the bill.”
